New proposals are to be brought in to impose ”ethnic quotas” on any company bidding for government work. The schemes – to be put in place at Jobcentre Plus, the Identity and Passport Service and the Department for Education and Skills – would be the first examples of “positive discrimination” adopted in the UK.
Not everyone is happy with these measures though. Nigel Roberts, president of the Cardiff Chamber of Commerce, said, “Employment should be based on no other criteria than an individual’s ability to do the job and whether they have significant merit compared with all other applicants.”
Indeed.
